Severus Snape:

Treacherous, traitorous villian?

Loyal friend and fighter willing to murder and suffer condemnation for the good of the cause?

One of my law partners came up with this theory:

This one is original, as far as I know.

I think Harry is a horcrux. Or some part of him - maybe his scar.

There has always been the weird connection between Harry and Voldemort. Harry is a parseltongue, which we now know runs in the Slytherin family. But Harry has no family connection with Slytherin etc.

The sorting hat had a tough time with Harry. Why? Because his soul was part Griffindor and part Slytherin.

Harry's wand is the twin of Voldemort's wand. Harry has unnatural powers at a young age, etc. not only because he is a "great wizard" but also because he has part of the soul of a fully mature great wizard.

I say - Voldemort's purpose in murdering people was to rip his soul (so he could store a piece in a horcrux). When he killed Harry's parents he inadvertently shot a piece of the soul into baby Harry. That's why his curse backfired (he was killing a piece of himself, if he killed Harry). It's also why Harry's scar throbs and burns when Voldemort is active.

Voldemort must know it - which is why he had to have Harry's blood, specifically, for the ritual that grew him a new body.

Etc.

Pretty good thinking, huh?

And a cool 'nother thought: Was one of Dumbledore's purposes in making Snape kill him, connected with Snape needing/ creating a horcrux, to make Snape less mortal in fighting Voldemort?

Ok, back to work.

Hmmm? Those are some good thoughts. They actually make pretty good sense and would be a nice twist. I think Snape is still good but right now I can't fathom why Dumbledore needed to be killed. I hope he doesn't come back as Obi Wan.

I'm just mad Ginny and Harry broke up.

"Goblet of Fire" on the big screen in just a few days.!!!

Ginny and Harry are destined for each other. We've been predicting that since Book 2. This is just a "break," a hiatus if you will, and we all know how those turn out.

I think Snape is all bad. I think it's JKR's greatest literary trick, to take a guy so obviously bad and write the rest of the characters, especially Dumbledore, so well that we come around to trust him just in time to be betrayed. Double suspension of disbelief. Brilliant.

We're planning our first date in 10.5 months to see Year 4 over Thanksgiving. Can't wait.
