GO OUTSIDE!

Good grief. This is the sort of thing that leads to tumbrels in the streets.

I think I have this week's sign of the impending apocalypse a little earlier than usual.

Really; get a bike. Get outside. Breath some fresh air. Meet some people.

Amen and amen.

I would also add, save some electricity.

I rarely, if ever, disagree with people on their own blogs but I stridently take issue with this.
We live in an obese culture, a problem that I struggle with as well.
One of the major hurdles that people face in losing weight and in being fit is proper motivation. If the Wii Fit taps into the love that people have for video games at the same time that it encourages them to exercise then how can that be a problem? It seems that we should be encouraging people to exercise however they find the motivation and encouragement to do so rather than being critical of a method that doesn't meet our personal tastes.
I use to run. I loved nothing more than getting out 3-4 times a week and hitting the pavement. However, due to some issues I quit. I have had a hard time regaining my motivation. If the Wii Fit helps me to get back out there, then that is a good thing.

That's fair, Scott. It's no worse or different than exercising to Sweatin' to the Oldies or Body by Jake, but I have the same criticism. Mostly, I am not concerned with good consenting adults like you but with the insidious, ubiquitous reliance and dependence on screens and monitors infecting childhood and adolescence. Maybe I'm a Luddite in this regard, but I see little good coming from a childhood that expects everything to be on a monitor or for everything to be artificially entertaining.

I believe the children are our future.
